Talk about a throwback! Here's some old school Common from 1994 off of his Resurrection album. He was still going by Common Sense at the time and still living on the Southside of Chicago...not doing Gap ads, not making movies, not wearing cardigans, and definitely keeping his rhymes simple and raw. I'm not saying I prefer one style over the other, but this is the Common that most hip-hop heads fell in love with waaaayyy back in the day. Enjoy.

What I kinda like about this album is that he did not have his breath control completely in check. Every once in a while you can catch a little squeak or a really fast, but distinct, inhalation. That kind of rawness seems appealing in light of all the slick stuff coming out right now, from Com Sense sometimes included.

This message is for "Emilio". In 1999 we presented our crossover themed project to your company via the A/R Department and then director Jairo. Our idea was classified as "excellent" by your A/R Department. Furthermore, Jairo was telling us that you liked the idea and were interested. At the request of your A/R Department, we were asked to travel from New Jersey to your office in Miami Beach for what was suppose to be a meeting with you. Each time, your A/R Department gave us a different reason as to why you would not make "the meeting". So, there were more requests for us to "come back". We followed instructions because we BELIEVED what your A/R person was telling us. We were being PROMISED a meeting with you at your office. Since, per your A/R person, "you like the idea, and were interested" we felt that this meeting would lead us to OUR dream. After your A/R Director left to pursue other professional goals he advised us to "repitch" our idea through the Media Relations Department of your company, which we did. That person was unable to schedule the meeting, which by the way she acknowledged was promised and long overdue. She also told us that she mentioned our situation to you, but you had not responded. Media Relations then suggested we go through your personal assistant. While your personal assistant also tried, after receiving our "validation package" for your review which she promised to take to your resisdence on STAR ISLAND,her response was that you were involved in other projects and could not take on anything new. NEW? Emilio, we started the process with your company in 1999! This was not new. We did what A/R asked us to do. We were told time and again that we were going to meet with you. We waited many, many years for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Our project was held back all this time because we were waiting to present it to YOU. When do we get a chance to make OUR DREAM COME TRUE?
