Next Edition of Target GlobalBeat this Saturday

Categories: Concert Preview

I have to admit, a few times while sort of fuzzy-headed, possibly with a pounding headache, I've driven down Biscayne a few times on a Saturday afternoon and groggily wondered, "Hmmm, what's all the fuss in front of the Carnival Center?" Well, my dumb ass completely forgot that, hello, the free Target GlobalBeat series has been going on there the second Saturday of every month.

It's flown under many people's radars a bit because, for one, it takes place in the harsh weekend daylight, and second, it's pretty family-oriented. But don't let either of those scare you away - the series has been drawing all kinds of funky world beat acts that don't necessarily play da clubs too often. (The exception, of course, being the ubiquitous Spam All-Stars).

Here's this week's edition's schedule -- Polynesian, Haitian, Latin, Bahamian, and "American" music. Culture vultures can do it up, take a brief intermission and then hit Wynwood and the Design District for Saturday's gallery walks. Now you know. -- Arielle Castillo
