DJ Khaled Launches New Label, Partners with Def Jam

Thu Feb 14, 2008 at 11:22:33 AM

Everybody's favorite local 305 hip-hop curator, DJ Khaled, is movin' on up yet again. Yesterday, he announced the launch of his new record label, We the Best Music (named after his 2007 album, of course, We the Best). It'll be ecxlusively partnered up with and distributed by Def Jam Entertainment, said Antonion "L.A." Reid, chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group.

The first album to drop will be the debut from Broward county rapper Ace, who appeared on Khaled's album.

Khaled, of course, commented in trademark style, full of the requisite shout-outs.

"I'm proud to be a member of the Def Jam family," he said. "Def Jam has been and still is one of the most important institutions in hip hop AND music as a whole. I am extremely honored and excited to be a partner with them in We The Best Music. I look forward to creating great music and continuing the success. LA, Shakir and Lenny S are you ready? I am!!! Let’s go!! Caaaaassssshhhhh Flooooowww!!! And remember....We global....global, we're international.....international! We The Best Music/Def Jam....get ready for history!!!"

Details on Ace's release date are forthcoming. -- Arielle Castillo
