Hialeah Park Has an Official Musical Endorsement

Categories: News

Local boy band Los Primeros have gotten with a group called Citizens to Save Hialeah Park, and recorded a bilingual song called, well, “Save Hialeah Park.”

The park itself is the site of a former race track, clubhouse and grandstand, and, according to the group on its web site, “is a symbolic resting place for the horses that raced there and the millions of people who once cheered from the clubhouse and grandstand. Hialeah Park is the city’s most evident and only historical link with the rest of the nation. It deserves nothing less than to be completely restored and preserved.”

The city of Hialeah recently approved the removal of the horse stables’ historic designation, and a plan is in place to – what else? – develop condos on the land.

As for Los Primeros, they hail from Hialeah and have got hometown pride – as well as a kind of salsa-reggaeton-hip-hop-pop sound going on. You can hear the whole track on their Myspace page, here.

Also, below, check a Univision news report about the issue and the song. -- Arielle Castillo
