Throwing it Back--"A Lo Cubano"

Categories: Throwbacks

Here's an old school jem from way back in the day. I remember the first time I heard the track, "A Lo Cubano" while I was on holiday in Managua and it blew my mind. The groove is all hip-hop and African via Cuba and Colombia with just the right amount of vocal flavor to make it stick inside of your head for days at a time.

When the song first really came out in 2000, Orishas were, in my eyes, the only Latin group that had the juice to be compared to Manu Chao in regards to how their music was equally real and catchy without being pop. There are a lot of solid jams off of the A Lo Cubano album, but the title track is always going to be my favorite.
