Throwback Tuesday's--Lil Wayne "Stuntin' Like My Daddy"
So Lil Wayne is back in the news today (as if he ever leaves) and it's related to his arrest last year on gun charges in Manhattan. Last July, the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was arrested and charged with felony gun possession after police officers pulled over his tour bus claiming they smelled the odor of Marijuana.
All week long, Lil Wayne will be in court fighting the charges. If convicted, he faces up to three and a half years in prison. Yesterday, his assistant, Terry Bourgeois testified that he occasionally saw a handgun and people smoking marijuana on Wayne's tour bus, but never saw the rapper with a gun.
It's anybody's guess if he'll be able to beat the charges, but the whole thing stinks of the New York Police Department's Hip-Hop Task Force that our sister paper, the Village Voice, has written about extensively. There is a unit especially assigned to monitoring rappers in New York, which the NYPD has admitted to, and there is also one in Miami (which the Miami Police Department admits). Since Lil Wayne lives in Miami and was arrested in New York, that's too much of a coincidence for me.
Anyways, it's Throwback Tuesdays, and to show Wayne some support, here's his 2006 video, "Stuntin Like My Daddy." Enjoy.
