A Day Without Mexicans

No, this post has nothing to do with the film (which, by the way, is an excellent movie).  Instead, it refers to a burning question I intended to begin with.  Do any Mexicans read this blog?

I have no idea, to be perfectly frank.  But I feel like the answer, by and large, is going to be no.  I'm stating this merely as an uneducated guess with no input from the circulation department (probably should have called them), and am really just basing this on nothing but the number of Mexicans I personally know living in Miami (4).  There are many more, I know, but that's beside the point.  The point is, I don't think many are turning here for their music news and that's partly my fault.  If I'm going to blog about Latin music, damnit, my information really should entertain all kinds of interests, whether your fancy is one of the many cool fusion bands our fine city has produced, or more traditional forms of music, like the myriad genres of Cuban, Colombian, Dominican, Puerto Rican, Chilean, Surinamian or what have you.  So I'm going to go ahead and let you guys in on this.

The first ever Festival del Mariachi has just been announced to take place in Homestead on Sunday, March 22nd.  Bust out your cowboy hat and extra-huge belt buckle and shine up your cowboy boots, because the Harris Field Pavilion is going to be a-rockin' with some serious regional Mexican tunes.  Set to perform are Increible Norteño, Rafael Mercadante, Sierra Kaliente Show and El Chalinillo.  The festival's chief sponsor will be Tecate, so you know what that means!  Should be a boozy good time for fans of the genre.  Ask for a chelada.  You'll thank me later.

The 1er Festival del Mariachi will take place on Sunday, March 22nd in the Harris Field Pavilion (1034 NE 8 ST in Homestead FL) from 12-7pm.  Entrance is $15 for adults, free for children under the legal drinking age in Mexico (10).
