The 11th Annual Afro Roots World Music Festival is upon us once again, party people.  It's an annual celebration of world music that has consistently gathered talented musicians from Africa, North and South America and the Caribbean to our sunny shores for the past ten years in a celebration of all the good stuff that makes being members of a global community worthwhile.  In fact, New Times has awarded festival founder and director Jose Elias with multiple "Best Ofs," including "Best Promoter of Cultural Diversity".

The festival actually kicks off tonight at Transit Lounge with "The Festival of the Drum" and continues tomorrow with a daytime kid's show in the Sandbowl behind the North Beach Bandshell called "Let The Children Have Music and Dance."

But the main event takes place in the Bandshell tomorrow night, with live performers including Morikeba Kouyate from West Africa, Brazilian Samba Group Grupo Embalo, Haiti's Jan Sebon & Kazak International, and Miami's own DJ Le Spam, not to mention live painting by LEBO.  Bring your sack.  Er...I mean the hacky variety, of course.
