Tim Finnegan's Grand Opening Includes Irish Bands and Irish Open Mic

As part of its grand opening Saturday, Tim Finnegans in Delray Beach is inviting musicians to bring their instruments and participate in an Irish Open Mic. If you don't have an Irish bodhran lying around, don't fret. You can still pretend your heart pumps green blood by covering Cockles and Mussels (a.k.a. Molly Malone) or Finnegan's Wake, the song that inspired James Joyce to write a novel by the same name. Moreover, Tim Finnegans the pub is named after the character in Joyce's Finnegans Wake. The grand opening starts Friday at 6 p.m., ends late Saturday night, and includes a performance by the Irish Theatre Group of Florida and lecture on Bloomsday -- a celebration of the life of Joyce during which people relive the events in the author's other masterpiece Ulysses. Traditional Irish music will close each night. Friday features a performance by Fire in the Kitchen, a quartet that uses a hammered dulcimer, Irish flute, Irish whistles, classical flute, Irish bodhran, guitar, bass, violin and viola. Local Irish band Echoes of Erin, who you may have caught at Delray Beach's Irish Cottage, will close the event Saturday.
