Butane Plays Electric Pickle this Friday

Midwestern DJ/producer Andrew Rasse a.k.a. Butane is one of the more cerebral and pragmatic figures of contemporary techno. This is a guy who cites the philosophers Martin Heidegger and Thomas Kuhn as influences, and whose new artist album Endless Forms (on Crosstown Rebels) is a self-described homage to Charles Darwin.

Inspired by the scientific evolutionist notion that "all the complexity that surrounds us has developed from ultimate simplicity", he's crafted a distinctive work of cutting-edge minimal techno that explores the balance between beautiful simplicity and intricate craftsmanship.

Butane's Alphahouse imprint is one of the most highly-regarded minimal techno labels in North America, and their eponymous monthly parties put his hometown of St. Louis on the techno map.

Not surprisingly though, philistine middle America became too small for his visionary ideas, and he eventually migrated to Berlin, like so many of his peers, where he's now based when not playing global tour dates from Tokyo to Mexico City. Friday night brings Butane to the Electric Pickle for an exclusive Miami performance for the "Endless Forms" release tour, and the techno heads will definitely not miss out on this one. PL0T resident DJ Alejandro Sab and Michael Christopher will spin in support.

Butane at Electric Pickle, Friday, July 31, 10 p.m.-5 a.m. 2826 N Miami Ave., Miami.
