Even after 33 years together, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band simply doesn't stop touring. Between playing around 30 festivals a year, DDBB also headlines their own shows and has recorded 16 albums since 1984. Although their sounds hasn't changed much since they started, it's far from being stagnant. They've added elements of bepob and jazz tunes to their sets more often, but at heart they've always been a jam band. The tireless band is touring in support of their 2006 album "What's Going On" and they'll be hitting the Culture Room on October 17. Tickets go on sale August 21 through Ticketmaster.
Saw them @ Highline in NYC in May. One of the best shows in my life. Highest recs.
Snowball
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is the funkiest band out of NOLA!! I worked A&R and on the sound crew for them at the 1985 Big Orange Festival at Bicentenial Park. Efrem Townes(lead singer & trumpet/flugelhorn) asked if I would give him the shirt I was wearing at the time.(Bayshore Recording Studios/Coconut Grove) Being that it was a collector's item I didn't want to give it up. At the end of the day I finally gave in and let him have it. I was living in Maui back in 2006 and saw them at a concert out there. At the end of the show, I walked up to say hello to him and mentioned I had worked w/them at the 1985 Miami show. Without missing a beat, while shaking my hand he said, "I still got that shirt!" That's an amazing recall he had!
