Concert Announcements: David Cook, The Supervillains, and Donavon Frankenreiter

American Idol season seven winner David Cook has made the big time. After winning Idol, he released a self-titled album which has gone platinum. Now he's coming to Nova University in Davie November 29. Hmmm. Tickets are available here.

Orlando five-piece ska boys the Supervillains are back again, this time they'll be playing at Culture Room on December 19. Check out the video after the jump for a preview of the pot-loving rude boys.

Ya know Jack Johnson? Well so does Donavon Frankenreiter, only he knows him personally. They've surfed together, jammed together, and now Donavon Frankenreiter is once again following in Johnson's footsteps and setting out on his own solo tour. His musical style is more jammy than Johnson's, but it's not terribly far off. Frankenreiter is playing at Culture Room on January 2.

Wow, I couldn't agree more with Peg, Sandy and Katie. I have only seen David 3 times for this tour but was thrilled that he is coming here in Nov. also, it's a good thing otherwise I was considering Illinois or Indiana before the tour was over. He is a special guy and the Band and he are so so talented. The banter alone is worth it! The shows are so good-I have been to more concerts this year than in my whole life and would gladly go to more of his in a heartbeat, if I could get away. One of the concerts I took my 21 year old son (mostly a rap fan-yuk!) 2 songs into the concert he turned to me and said "Wow, can he sing!!! He's gonna get a GRAMMY! I figured since he won idol -he could sing but didn't know how he'd do live, he's even better, OMG, wow!!!! All you have to do is see him live once, you'll know!!! and be hooked!
WTH? Hmmm? I never understand why people who are paid journalists often don't even take a few minutes to research what they write or report on. I mean, the rest of us do it all the time. David Cook formed his first band when he was 15 - it was pretty good, too - I love a lot of their songs. Pretty hardcore for the most part with Cook doing most of the songwriting. Check out Axium. Then Cook played with MWK (Midwest Kings). Excellent hard-rockin band w guitar genius Neal Tieman & multi-talented Andy Skib. Both write great songs and are in Cook's fantastic, amazing band. During college & early MWK after he graduated Cook produced his own Indie album "Analog Heart" - probably one of my top 5 albums of all time. (And my slacker radio station is pretty broad.) It's so easy to not even listen to Cook's music and count him out because he fell into Idol. Dude did what he had to do with the collapse of the music industry. His album came out the month the financial industry also collapsed and we went into the worst recession since the 30's, some say. Still with Illegal downloading at all time highs, his album plus 2 singles have gone platinum. And his Declaration Tour is so good we're now at show 136. It keeps getting extended month after month and has lasted nearly a year. I don't know, I'd be curious why - might be the music. But closed minds stop thought. And those who are missing Cook are really missing out.
I've seen David live 19 times (including at the AMA show last year and at GMA in Central Park in August) and have 7 more scheduled to attend, including this one at Davie. He puts on a wonderful concert - I wouldn't be going to so many otherwise. Go see him if you can. He's fabulous and his band is great, too. Neal Tieman is a guitar legend in the making and Kyle Peek is a fantastic drummer. Monte is an excellent bassist and a fun addition to the band, and Andy is a talented guitar player and back-up singer. In fact, Andy has albums of his own out. Don't miss seeing them live.
If you get a chance, go see David Cook live - he is an amazing performer and if you were not a fan before, you will be Cookified by the end of the concert!
