Pitchfork Shows Surfer Blood More Love

Pitchfork's love affair with West Palm Beach's Surfer Blood continued this week when the online music site picked "Swim" as the one of the top singles of 2009. It came in at number 37 out of 100. Pitchfork says, "Any self-respecting 'pop craftsman' would've whittled away at that 'Needles in the Camel's Eye'-quoting intro, the Scandal-ous chorus, or the slip-n-slide Built to Spill riffs, but Surfer Blood just throws it all on the table like a whopping 50% tip. Lesser bands might call that melodic conspicuous consumption wasteful, but it ain't trickin' if you got it."

If you aren't yet familiar with the band, what are you waiting for? Check out Erica Landau's profile in this week's issue as the group returns to South Florida much more seasoned and popular. We recommend catching shows this weekend at the Vagabond and Propaganda. See 'em now, before the hype sends the band soaring up the indie charts.

Their debut, Astro Coast, comes out January 19.

After the jump, listen to Surfer Blood's track "Swim," which is often compared to Weezer. That is an insult in our book. Nope, they're much better.
