Bass Museum's Biweekly Jazz Concerts Start Again Tonight With the Mike Orta Quartet

Categories: Concert Preview

Always looking to balance my rock and roll with a little culture, I'm happy to report that Miami Beach's Bass Museum of Art kicks off its much-lauded winter/spring season of biweekly jazz concerts tonight, February 19. Getting the festivities going will be the Mike Orta Quartet. FIU students will recognize its namesake pianist as a professor of jazz studies. Other local jazz enthusiasts, meanwhile, will remember him from any of his numerous appearances around town with main players like Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D'Rivera, or Chick Corea. Orta also boasts a past stint with Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. Not a bad pedigree, not bad at all.

There's a $10 cover for non-members (museum members pay $5), I'm sure the complimentary Grolsch beer, Bustelo coffee, and wine will soften the blow. Enjoy this video above showing Orta jamming with D'Rivera.
