This Wednesday marks the kick-off of the annual
Florida Music Festival, a mini SXSW-style music industry schmoozefest in Orlando. While it may sound cheesy to Miami people at first glance, a number of local acts head up there every year to play it. Why? Unlike, say, the inaugural Miami Music Festival this past December, it's actually well-attended by music fans and some industry type, and past editions have resulted in the wheels rolling for some major deals.
Generally, the festival favors rock, heavily, especially the kind that could be commercially viable. But this year still offers some varying sounds, especially from the sampling of South Florida artists playing, among them MillionYoung, Jahfe, Dreaming in Stereo, and others. Hit the jump to get the full details on our hometown acts. It may be worth a weekend getaway just for the bar crawl part alone; a wristband gets you access to multiple stages around town, including shows by already-made-it headliners like Murder By Death, Anberlin, Rusted Root, and Parachute. The festival runs through Saturday night. Visit
