R.I.P. Herb Ellis 1921 - 2010

Categories: Obituaries

One of the quiet men of the jazz guitar, Herb Ellis forged a career that took him throughout the rambunctious days of jazz to a very memorable stint in the Oscar Peterson Trio alongside Peterson and Ray Brown from 1953 until 1958, enjoying the controversial status of being the only white dude in the Trio. He also performed as a side man for Stan Getz and founded the super-group, Great Guitars in the early '70s with Charlie Byrd, Joe Pass and Barney Kessel. Ellis passed away this past Sunday in his LA home of Alzheimer's disease. Check him out above having a great time alongside Barney Kessel while performing the Flintstone's Theme.
