Gustavo Cerati Hits American Airlines Arena Friday

​There's old, and then there's old school. The differentiating factor lies in the degree of coolness to oldness, or the CTO ratio, if you will. Gustavo Cerati is neither. The cat is straight up out of school. Now, we could wax jargon all day to hash out how that works mathematically, but suffice it to say, he's the uber-cool granddaddy of Latin Rock -- you know, the one who tells jokes at family gatherings that are clearly inappropriate, and all the funnier because of it.

Cerati's band Soda Estereo pioneered what we know as Rock en Español today during the 80's and into the early 90's. The band got together in '82 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and hit the bar scene for a bit before breaking big. And break big they most certainly did. However, Cerati set off on his own roughly 10 years later, and has never looked back. Except for that reunion tour last year.

In any case, Cerati is known as an artist perpetually in the vanguard, experimenting with both the boundaries of his own sound and performances. He's a true artist in every sense of the word, and Latin rock fans are already chomping at the bit for his appearance on Friday at the Waterfront Theatre in AAA.
