Jazz Returns to Jazid!

KCC Production's Kimberly Chmura's a one-woman whirlwind in the local jazz scene and she's been behind a small but strong resurgence of jazz in South Florida with some notable productions occurring in museums and at The Van Dyke Café. This could end up being more of a social experiment with the pedestrian and younger demographical nature of the clientele at Jazid or maybe not; let's hope not. Let's hope this takes off, because social experimentation on South Beach makes me kinda queasy.
Tonight Felipe Lamoglia brings his Afro-Cuban roots via his accomplished Quintet with a set bordering on nuances of jazz across the ages and the soothing tropical sounds of Brazilian music. The man's got a Grammy for his work on Sandoval's Rumba Palace album so you know you're in for a treat! Jazid always has cool drink specials and jazz will be heard again in Washington Avenue, even if it's just on Tuesday nights during May. Check a video out after the jump.
The Felipe Lamoglia Quintet. 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 4. Jazid, 1342 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach. 305-673-9372; jazid.net
Felipe Lamoglia will perform Tuesday, May 4th at Jazid at 9 pm.
