Latin Rock Legend Luis Alberto Spinetta Plays Gusman Center Wednesday

​If Gustavo Cerati and Soda Estereo are the Lewis and Clark of Argentine rock, Luis Alberto Spinetta is Christopher Columbus. If Los Enanitos Verdes are the Atari 2600, Spinetta is the "Brown Box" of 1967, which you probably never heard of, unless you're a huge geek. If you think of Andres Calamaro as the chicken, Spinetta is the egg (or is it vice-versa?). And if Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are, well, Caddy's 1950 Coupe De Ville, Spinetta is the Ford Model T.

Which is to say, homeboy's old. He's neither old school, nor out of school. He predates school. He first became known for creating the band Almendra, along with Emilio del Guercio, Edelmiro Molinari, and Rodolfo Garcia in 1968. His solo career, though, commenced soon after in 1971, with Spinettalandia y sus Amigos, and it's safe to say Luis Alberto has been a key player in the Latin rock game since even before its infancy. He's never ceased to be relevant, either, influencing musicians from the aforementioned to many of today's.
