In another test of Pitbull's continued impact on the music scene, he's been nominated for the "Best Rap Artist" at this year's Teens Choice Awards. He faces some stiff competition as Jay-Z, Ludacris, Drake and Eminem are also up for the award. Fans will be able to go to the Teens Choice Awards website and vote for their favorites. Winners will be announced during the August 9th broadcast on Fox. Also, this is the second time that Pitbull has been nominated as he was also nominated last year in the same category. [TCA]

Mayday continue to take strides towards thinking outside the box and have released a new track that they did in conjunction with multi-platinum producer Jim Jonsin, who is also based here in South Florida. The track "Black Shades" leaked two days ago and features production duties shared by Jim and by Mayday bandmate, Plex Luthor. In related news, a video surfaced that showed DJ Khaled giving Mayday a co-sign and basically saying that "they the best". Click here to watch that video. [MaydayOnline]

Local artist Serum released his album Brainstorm Troopah last year to critical success. And now, he's pushing another set of the albums, but this time with a free "10" x 10" mini-poster of the cover art, which was done by Miami's Krave Art. If you're a fan of Krave's work, you can pretty much see that you usually cannot get any of his prints at this low of a price. Purchase the CD and you get it. [Wall Love]

Slip-N-Slide Records have much reason to be happy these days as they recently released Trina's album and have recently released Plies' Goon Affiliated and clocked in a decent first week of 56,000 copies sold landing it on the #5 Billboard spot. And as a sign of times and dwindling record sales, Plies last album Da Realist was released in 2008 and opened up at #14 with 114,000 sold. By comparison, its definitely some indication of the state of the music industry. [BallerStatus]

While many hip-hop fans are up in the fence about what they think of Rick Ross, you can't deny that Rick Ross music and career decisions seem to get better with time. Now with Diddy on the helms of his management, Rick Ross takes that and keeps doing the unexpected. First, he brought out F. Gary Gray out of his hip-hop video retirement and now, Rick hints that he may very well recruit famed director Spike Lee to direct a music video for the song that he has with Kanye West. You can't deny that Rick Ross knows how to make music and seems to now know how to break out of the norm to produce some great visuals to his songs. [The305]
