Hear Felipe Lamoglia's Afro-Cuban Jazz Project at the Deauville on Thursday

South Florida's small but tight jazz scene has usually been recognized out of town for its Afro-Cuban influences. This Thursday night provides an opportunity to hear one of the greatest local proponents of that sound, Felipe Lamoglia. The noted saxophonist, arranger, and composer will take the stage at the Deauville Beach Resort Jazz Club with special guests Ernesto Simpson and Armando Gola. Percussionist Simpson should bring some funk, pop, and R&B influences to the proceedings. Meanwhile, Gola's nimble fingers on bass has scored him a past Grammy nomination.

The intimate venue might reach its event horizon trying to contain what promises to be an amped-up evening of straight up Afro-Cuban jazz in the hand of some very adept musicians. Check out a video of Lamoglia at the Van Dyke after the jump.

Felipe Lamoglia's Cuban Project. 9 p.m. Thursday, June 24. The Deauville Beach Resort Jazz Club, 6701 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Tickets cost $10. 305-332-2623; kccproductions.com
