Gustavo Cerati Suffers Extensive Brain Damage

Sad news out of Argentina this week. Latin rock pioneer Gustavo Cerati seems to have suffered extensive brain damage from a stroke in his left cerebral hemisphere, as evidenced from a CatScan. Cerati had been hospitalized in Venezuela as of May 15, after collapsing following a show in Caracas on his Fuerza Natural tour, supporting his most recent album of the same name. He was flown to his native Argentina on Monday, where he was placed in the intensive care unit of FLENI, where he's receiving specialized neurological care.

Fans of Latin rock, many fans of music in general, and basically anyone born or living in Latin America during the 1980s recognizes Cerati as a living legend. The frontman and founder of one of rock en español's most groundbreaking bands, the seminal act Soda Stereo, Cerati's work has been the subject of critical acclaim over the years since that band's inception in '82.

Updates are coming from the artist's website, but as they themselves reported in the most recent news posted (on Tuesday), change in his condition is expected to be slow.
