| Tom Araya of Slayer last played South Florida at the Mayhem Festival in 2009. The band returns in October, this time to Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheater. |
Rather than tour behind new material, both bands are joining the recent trend of playing landmark albums in full. (Actually, Priest did that on its last South Florida stop, playing British Steel note for note at Hard Rock Live). Both are also tackling their landmark 1990 albums: Slayer will shred through Seasons in the Abyss, and Megadeth will tackle Rust in Peace. In fact, it was behind these records that the two acts last toured together, on 1991's Clash of the Titans tour.
The icing on this delicious metal cake: The opening act is Anthrax!!! (Crossfade has a perma-crush on you, Scott Ian).
We think Dave Mustaine sums it all up best: "If you missed us playing with our friends Slayer back in the '90s, well, here's your chance to make it up to yourself," he says. "If you miss it this time, well then you ain't metal anyway!"
The American Carnage Tour hits Miami on Sunday, October 3 at Bayfront Park. Tickets are $49.50 for reserved seats, and $35.50 for the lawn. They go on sale Friday, July 23 at 10 a.m., through livenation.com or 800-745-3000. Don't bother going to the amphitheater box office, though -- tickets will only be available there the day of the show, if there are any left.
