Breaking: The King is Dead , Grass Restaurant and Lounge Hosts "Thank You" Closing Party Tonight

​Grass Restaurant & Lounge and neighboring The King is Dead Lounge in the Design District will close their doors after tonight's Lavish Tuesday's "Thank You" Party. A call to the venue lead to the expected "closing for summer renovations" talk.

Grass won "Best Outdoor Dining" from New Times back in 2008 and gained even more acclaim when Top Chef's Micah Edelstein became Executive Chef.  Lavish Tuesdays then grew to become the upscale urban party of the week, with regular celebrity guests like Timberland, Ludacris, and Nas.

Despite the big-name attention, the venue's problems with stability were evident. Earlier this year, they launched Havana San Juan and the Live Series at the King is Dead, with both fading as quickly as they began. Then Michah Edelstein left the restaurant, claiming the owners failed to promote her revamped menu.
Considering the venue's unique set-up, it's hard to buy the "renovations" talk, and of course there are whispers are financial woes. Regardless, this is one venue I'm hoping makes a comeback.
