With the countless
expatriate artists that have flocked to the EDM capital of Berlin in the
last decade, it's actually rare to find a real Berliner among them. But
acclaimed DJ/producer Sascha Funke
was indeed born and raised in East Berlin
when electronic music was a just a faint rumor on the radio waves
emanating from the other side of the wall.
Schooled in the '90s techno
scene that proliferated amid Berlin's underground warehouse parties,
Funke cut his teeth DJing at various local hostpots. Eventually, he joined fledgling forces in the studio with another future star, Paul
Kalkbrenner of Berlin Calling fame.
The '00s saw Funke develop a close association with Ellen Allien's
Bpitch Control imprint, which has released a substantial amount of his
original output over the years.
Funk's sound boasts a quintessentially German aesthetic, equal parts emotive lyricism and stark minimalist functionality. Today, he's cemented his reputation as one of Berlin's foremost exponents of cutting-edge contemporary techno.
His appearance in Miami comes, again courtesy of the PL0T crew, who never fail to delight and surprise Miami's small but fanatical community of techno lovers. They host Sascha Funke for a special Friday night performance at the Electric Pickle
