Preview Trent Reznor's Score for David Fincher's The Social Network

Categories: Free Music, News
When we first heard that Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor would be scoring The Social Network, we got a little confused. First off, a movie about Facebook?

But once we saw the trailer, we breathed a sigh of relief. Oh, so this movie might actually be good. And it's directed by dark cinematic genius David Fincher. Alright, it all makes sense.

And now, Crossfade readers, we have a sampler of the soundtrack for your listening pleasure.

Reznor posted the following on the nullco site:

"Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory -- electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes."

He's right. The soundtrack is only a minor departure from standard NIN, but nothing that true Reznor fans won't be able to appreciate. It still has an inherent darkness mixed with synths and electronic beats, making for a new take on Reznor classics. That's probably because he worked with longtime NIN producer Atticus Ross on the 19-track album.

It won't be released in its entirety until September 28 (digitally), but you can sample five of the album's tracks below, and tell us what you think.
