El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico
El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is considered the epitome of the salsa orchestra, so much so that the big band was given the title of the La Universidad de la Salsa (which translates to The University of Salsa) back in the early '80s. Together they have produced over 40 albums and won a Grammy for Best Tropical Album.

On November 5, El Gran Combo will celebrate its 50th anniversary by headlining the Gran Concierto Bailable at the James L. Knight Center. The title literally translates to "grand danceable concert." And staying true to the theme, general admission means the dance floor. El Gran Combo also decided to bring along some big-name friends for the party, including "The Ambassador of Meregue," Sergio Vargas. The Dominican-born performer has had an international career spanning over 20 years, with multiple albums landing on the Latin Billboard charts.

And if that's not enough to pull out the dancing shoes, crooner Victor Manuelle and "Suevemente" singer Elvis Crespo are also slated to perform. Anyone who has ever been to a quinceañera or a cheesy wedding (including los gringos) knows Crespo's "Tu Sonrisa." Tickets for this Latin mega concert cost $34 via Ticketmaster.

Gran Concierto Bailable with El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Sergio Vargas, Victor Manuelle, and Elvis Crespo. Friday, November 5. James L. Knight Center, 400 SE Second Ave., Miami. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. Visit jlkc.com.
