Five Halloween Freak Fests From South Beach to Downtown
|Take the pain at Hellrotika.|
Just one tip: Whatever your personal proclivities, make sure the costume fits, you freak. See the cut for a nightmare at Space, Hellrotika, some weirdos and bloodsuckers, and Steve Aoki.
A Nightclub on Eleventh Street. Much like Freddy Krueger hijacked dreams on Elm Street, three evil DJs -- Radamas, Paco Osuna, and Boris -- will take over Space this Halloween weekend. Radamas the vampire will chill in the Ballroom while Paco gets pinned Hellraiser-style in the Techno Loft and Boris flexes his Freddy scissor-fingers on the Terrace. It should be terrifyingly awesome. 10 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at Space, 34 NE 11th St., Miami; 305-375-0001; clubspace.com. Tickets cost $20 to $30 via wantickets.com. Ages 21 and up.
Hellrotika. We know there's nothing sexier than burning in Hell while enjoying erotica. And thankfully, Save Dade agrees. With a freakish mix of DJs, burlesque dancers, MC Michael Martini, and "hellsex" costume contestants, Miami's leading LGBT advocacy group will host the traveling Circus of Lost Souls. And if being a part of the theatrics is more your game, the organization is also taking volunteers for the night. 8 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at the AwareHouse, 550 NE 29th St., Miami; Tickets cost $35 and up via hellrotika.com. Ages 21 and up.
Freakshow. When Nocturnal decided to call its Halloween party the Freakshow, we just shrugged and thought, Sounds like a standard Saturday. But the club promises a variety of acts that showcase "Miami's rarest oddities." Like most nights at this NE 11th Street spot, the party will push past sunrise, so zombies are warmly welcomed. Masks, however, are not allowed. 11 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at Nocturnal, 50 NE 11th St., Miami. Tickets cost $20 via wantickets.com.
True Blood. Who likes the red stuff? Get a gulp when Fabrik Madrid's resident DJ, Abel the Kid, headlines Dolce's blood bash. Basically, with vampire dancers, an electric string performance, and a $500 costume contest, the party will be a tribute to one of the most popular shows on television. Note: "Sexy costumes are also encouraged." In other words, wearing a sexy costume is the only way you won't get stuck on the wrong side of the rope. 11 p.m. Saturday, October 30, at Dolce Ultralounge, 1501 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; 305-672-2221; dolcesouthbeach.com. Tickets cost $20 to $35 via wantickets.com.
Steve Aoki. Dim Mak Records founder and hipster dance icon Steve Aoki is better known for spazzy performance antics than pure musical skill. But whether you happen to be a fan or not, there's really no denying that his onstage shenanigans are the stuff of pure, unadulterated Halloween mischief. Will he dress up as a zombified Mr. Miyagi this Sunday and stuff candy corn into the mouths of slutty nurses? Be there and find out. 10 p.m. Sunday, October 31, at Cameo, 1445 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 786-235-5800; cameomiami.com. Tickets cost $30 via wantickets.com. Ages 21 and up.
