Arboles Libres and Dreaming in Stereo at the Forward Motion Records Showcase

It was the 28th hour of the Miami Music Festival. And out in the Tobacco Road parking lot amid broken beer bottles and oil-stained asphalt, Fernando Perdomo and Forward Motion Records laid down a low-key powwow.

The night's full lineup included Lauren & Alexandra Mann, Lizette Santana, Jill Hartmann, Vic Kingsley, Sylvia Emmerson, and Omine. By midnight, though, the local label's marquee crews -- Dreaming in Stereo and Arboles Libres -- were due for some stage time.

Check the cut for video from those two late-night sets.

When was the last time you spent a few hours just you, Google Sky, and your old lady? According to singer and guitarist Fernando Perdomo, Dreaming in Stereo's "Fill My Sky" was written after one of those long, summer nights spent examining the cosmos.

Somewhere near the middle of its set, Perdomo and his band played the pretty pop track. It's basically a shameless love song, tinged with dark romanticism and an alt-country vibe, that confesses yearnings like "Can't you be my sun?/Can't you be my moon?/Can't you fill my sky?"

You've got feelings, fate, and all-consuming human emotion. Or, as Perdomo later said offstage: "all that hippie shit."

Juan "Nacho" Londono jams so hard that he routinely destroys gear. And within the first few minutes of Friday's set, the Arboles Libres frontman had already snapped four guitar strings. But there was no stopping the song ... Guitarist Eddie Moreno ran backstage to do repairs while drummer Anthony Genovese pounded out that beat and Nacho led the crowd in a sing-along. It should've been a disaster. But it was fucking great.

And that's the thing about Arboles: These guys seem to be connected in an almost supernatural way with the flow of the universe. Everything's amazingly loose and easy.
