Brand Nubian Drops Classic Boom-Bap at Florida Room This Saturday
|Brand Nubian's eyeing you.|
You remember these guys: Grand Puba, Sadat X, and Lord Jamar. They're three cats from New Rochelle, New York, who still know how to throw heavy hands and heavier verses.
The self-proclaimed Five Percenters originally took over the hip-hop scene with its 1990 debut release, One for All, which has become one of the most critically acclaimed rap records of the decade. The album set the trio apart from counterparts like EPMD, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest, because of its militant, politically conscious appeal and jazzy lyrical mastery.
Even though Brand Nubian was never the early '90s most commercially successful crew, the three members have continued to perform and produce for the last 20 years. In fact, Brand Nubian's last album, Time's Runnin' Out, was released only three years ago while Sadat X and Grand Puba both have successful solo careers.
