Brand Nubian Drops Classic Boom-Bap at Florida Room This Saturday

Categories: Concert Preview
Brand Nubian's eyeing you.
Ahh, the glory days of the boom-bap era. Remember backpacks, shell tops, and real MCs who actually rapped. Those dudes would have laughed in the face of auto-tune. Well, relive your high school days when classic '90s hip-hop crew Brand Nubian drops a rare performance this Saturday at the Florida Room.

You remember these guys: Grand Puba, Sadat X, and Lord Jamar. They're three cats from New Rochelle, New York, who still know how to throw heavy hands and heavier verses.

The self-proclaimed Five Percenters originally took over the hip-hop scene with its 1990 debut release, One for All, which has become one of the most critically acclaimed rap records of the decade. The album set the trio apart from counterparts like EPMD, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest, because of its militant, politically conscious appeal and jazzy lyrical mastery.

Even though Brand Nubian was never the early '90s most commercially successful crew, the three members have continued to perform and produce for the last 20 years. In fact, Brand Nubian's last album, Time's Runnin' Out, was released only three years ago while Sadat X and Grand Puba both have successful solo careers.

Hosted by Miami's night life mavens, Max Pierre of Gorillas and Josh Wagner of recent PlumTV fame, as well as M1 of Dead Prez (yeah, you read that right - Dead Prez!), we suggest you bring out your most chic red, black, and green attire (sans the camouflage cargo pants) and witness what's sure to be a very special night for all the diehard hip-hop heads out there.
