Why so cranky, Timo?
After an entire decade behind the decks as a DJ-for-hire, German spinner Timo Maas finally became a full-blown techno convert in the early '90s. He hung around warehouses and cut together live mixes that kickstarted his ascent through Deutschland's rave scene.

There were residencies in Hamburg, a slew of singles, and even a compilation release appropriately titled Music for the Masses. But ultimately, Maas's rise peaked circa 2002 with his debut full-length, Loud, a 14-track slice that spawned the crunchy techno-rock hit, "To Get Down," which has soundtracked everything from video games to beer commercials.

Unlike the German, Brit legend Lee Burridge had to leave home just to begin building his rep. With a fresh obsession for acid house and illegal dance parties, he was recruited into Hong Kong nightlife following a fateful meeting with a wandering club owner in 1990. Early the next year, Burridge fled to the former British colony, set up a series of weekly parties, and spent the next six years turning the island's non-existent scene into a thriving underground thing. By 1997, though, he was back in the UK. And in the 13 intervening years, he's enshrined himself as electronic music royalty and a fixture at festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and Winter Music Confererence.

This Wednesday, both Maas and Burridge will make a special non-WMC stop at Soho Studios where they'll play together for the first time ever in Miami. Witness the intersection.

With Kike Roldan and Danny Houmann. Wednesday, November 24. Soho Studios, 2136 NW First Ave., Miami. The show starts at 10 p.m. and tickets cost $25 via wantickets.com. Ages 21 and up. Call 305-600-4785 or visit sohostudiosmiami.com.
