Shepard Fairey Spins Top 40 Tunes (and Some Predictably "Eclectic" Crap) at Fountain Art Fair

• Do you feel there was someone else at the event that night that should have headlined over him? Again, I wasn't there. Top 40 of an era, in my opinion, and perhaps this is projection, might speak of a different quality. As in, it's considered lame or square for him to have been playing "Top 40". For instance, a Beatles, Elvis, Chuck Berry, etc tune that topped the charts in it's day, doesn't have the same vapid quality something like Justin Bieber or some other top 40 "radio hit" of today has to us (An assumption on my part in regards to your taste, based on your tone in the post). It seemed to me that you were using that as a device to deflate his spot at the event, which didn't seem to hold water, because to be honest, these are not entirely bad songs. They are perfectly suited for someone to play at a party. The negative tone seemed to be directed at him simply for it being him. If it were someone else less notable, this playlist would seemingly be unremarkable. As far as vitriol is concerned, it isn't necessary, because we're talking about what's been written at hand. No need to find another reason to makes it any more pointed than it is. Nasty comments are pretty easy to find on the internet, and not really an indication of one making a strong point. It's just typical.

• Hey RW, he was headlining. This random shit would've been OK between sets or something. I just went to see what Fairey would do behind the decks and I told it as I saw it. And while not current Top 40, songs like "Another One Bites the Dust," "Walk This Way," and others were Top 40 in their time. As for wanting to "assassinate the guy's character," that's hilarious. Have you ever seen true internet vitriol? I took it pretty easy on Shep.

• I'm not defending Shepard Fairey, Not a fan of his work. But this is sort of a lame attempt to rag on the guy for doing something totally innocuous. You want to assassinate the guy's character because you think he's a sellout (He may very well be, by your standards). And, While the records he's playing aren't obscure or remotely risky in selection,and he clearly can't mix, it's hardly top 40. If you've been to a club where they play top 40, you'd know it. I wasn't at this event, and am not connected to any of it in any way. Was linked to this piece and thought to comment.

• i had no idea who he was until now. they smashed a car while he played clash and fugazi. people were lining up outside to pay their $10. there was so much chaos i walked right in without a wristband.
