Xperimento Performs Live at Transit Lounge This Saturday

Naming a band can be a tricky thing.

You don't want to get all set to rock the Pit on Saturday in order to save the dorm and put together some upstart, slacker rock band called Everyone Gets Laid, if in fact nobody does.

That said, Xperimento didn't seem to have a problem choosing its name. The moniker couldn't have been a more accurate description of this crew, encapsulating their free-form, no holds barred approach to making music with razor-fine precision, and brandishing the band's M.O. like a banner.

"It's definitely not your typical Miami band," says lead vocalist Camilo "Tumbao" Sierra. "I think most people think we are strictly Latin or Spanish, which we are very proud of, but we also bring elements of urban America into our sound, including hip hop, bilingual rap, R&B, funk, and lots of soul. Add in a healthy portion of the Caribbean vibes -- reggae, ska, salsa, merengue -- and, of course, lots of dancing."

"We're all about getting xperimental with it, so no genre is off limits," he continues. "We go by what the people react the best to. Since that changes from venue to venue and city to city, we're ready for anything!"

It's as accurate a description as one could hope for from a crew whose style, like its name, is based on such disparate musical associations. Making your band a melting pot might seem precarious with so very many influences in the air at once. But Xperimento navigates it with surprising ease.

"Honestly, I think it's because as a band we already have a chemistry," Sierra says. "We know each other. That combined with a sharp songwriting sensibility and focus, we're able to connect with not only our Latin American fan base, but also with the new hybrid Miami culture."

He goes on to say, "Being in this city is kinda like Epcot. Or, as I like to call it, 'Touring in a bubble.' You get a small taste of everything without getting overwhelmed."

The band's come a long way from an xperimental side project, steadily building its following and recording, and fans will be psyched to hear that the fruits of Xperimento's labor will soon be ripe for the picking, with a new single, titled "Amsterdam," on the way soon and an album expected this spring

"Our full-length debut album has been in the works for over a year now," Sierra says. "We have the privilege of working with AT Molina, who is a Grammy-winning producer. It will be titled X. This symbolizes the 10-plus years we've known each other personally and musically. Plus, we believe we have that X-factor when it comes to captivating people."
