Wail With the Ghost of Miles Davis at the Arsht Center February 25
Earlier this month, the trumpet-wielding master reissued the expanded Bitches Brew Live, a soul-scorching set of electrified jazz-rock pulled from his infamously intense performances at 1969's Newport Jazz Festival and 1970's Isle of Wight.
And this Friday, Davis will rise again from the grave for another gig: Celebrating Miles, an early 85th birthday bash at the Adrienne Arsht Center's Knight Concert Hall.
Confirmed attendees include the ghosts of John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, and Bill Evans -- not to mention a few living players like Miles's old friends and bandmates Wallace Roney, Ron Carter, and Marcus Miller. Plus, there's 27-year-old New Orleans horn wizard, Christian Scott, who plays a trumpet called Katrina.
All together, they'll pay tribute to jazz's Prince of Darkness with cuts off acoustic albums Milestones, Round About Midnight, and Kind of Blue as well as late-career electric experiment Tutu.
Go wail with Miles.
