There is only one adjective that does the almighty Shitstorm justice ... Relentless.

For starters, can you think of a local act that plays faster, nastier and harder? We certainly can't. Figure in that the grindcore outfit has been smokin' suckers since 2004, and you've got a blasting, metallic stamina comparable to none other.

The group emerged from the early 2000s South Florida punk/hardcore scene that revolved around house parties and now-legendary Allapattah hangout, The Alley.

Featuring brothers (and frequent collaborators) Rickey and David Smith (drums and vocals, respectively), Shitstorm was wrought from the same psychic/social gene pool as grind freaks Tyranny of Shaw, screamo band Tunes For Bears To Dance To, and metalcore group Adore Miridia, among many others. And while many bands from the era eventually lost steam, Shitstorm chugged along at a steady, snarling pace, even as Rick kept busy in the nationally renowned stoner-pop band Torche.

Check out the group this Thursday as they kick off a small Florida jaunt in preparation for a longer tour this summer that will find the band sharing the stage in NYC with powerviolence heroes Cripple Bastards, and holding their own at mega-fests like Maryland Death Fest and Chaos in Tejas. Warm-up acts come in the form of epic punk trio, Beings, and up-and-coming riff slaves, Holly Hunt.

Shitstorm with Beings and Holly Hunt. The Cave, 164 NW 20th St., Miami. The show starts at 8 p.m. and it's free. Visit miamistylegrindcore.blogspot.com.
