Fishbone! Tonight! Explore the Reality of Your Surroundings at Grand Central

​I guess there's a Rolling Stones joke somewhere when you mention rock 'n' roll powerhouses that have been around for what seems like an eternity. And sure, like the Stones, there have been highs and lows for everyone.

But when it comes to the thirty-two years that Fishbone has been rocking houses across the globe and satisfying audiences, well, the joke doesn't hold.

That some grandiose label effort has not supported these guys since the beginning is a sad tale, because the talent and output is there. In my opinion, 1991's The Reality of My Surroundings is among the finest of albums. Their live shows are second to none and the sheer energy that emanates from Angelo Moore could power third-world countries.



Wild they are, in the very best sense of incorporating ska punk, funk metal, rock, reggae and soul under the ambiguous umbrella of "alternative" rock. And when you bet on Fishbone, you win. Also on board for tonight's evening of unrelenting rock 'n' roll fun will be local good-time makers ¡Mayday! and Stampede Movement along with the dashiki eclectic sounds of DJ Keen One. A solid lineup.
