Troy Roberts, an Aussie With Tropical Sensibilities Hits the Van Dyke This Thursday
![]() |
Those laurels include two consecutive West Australian Music Industry Awards (WAMI), two Downbeat Jazz Soloist Awards as well as appearances on Sammy Figueroa's Grammy-nominated album The Magician. He's also worked with current luminaries like Robby Ameen, Rodney Whitaker, Carl Allen, and Lauryn Hill.
He's a smooth player in the classical sense, invoking feelings of warmth and sheer gusto on the sax. While noted as a strong soloist, Roberts's quartet showcases his innate musical ability and ear -- not to mention his composing and arranging skills.
This Aussie's a young dude to keep an eye on. Catch him tomorrow night in the cozy upstairs confines of the Van Dyke.
