Top Five Miami Karaoke Nights in Honor of National Karaoke Week

Categories: Nightlife
BestMiamiKaraokeNights.jpg
Karaoke ... Miami fuckin' loves that shit. And right now, it's time to celebrate. This is National Karaoke Week, people.

Yes, the art of performance over pre-recorded instrumentals has its own holiday. People get on a mic, belt out their favorite tunes, and live the rock star fantasy in front of a bunch of drunk strangers. Over the next week, those strangers will become friends and the karaoke scene shall live on.

Here are the top five Miami karaoke nights.
Full disclosure: These are all nights run by the same Kara-O-King company. No offense to all the other karaoke's out there. Leave a comment with directions to your favorite party.

5. Studio, Miami Beach
Ripped from our Clubs Database: This spot was our 2003 Best Karaoke Bar. Studio allows its often-belligerent guests let loose and have fun. There's no cover, but you've gotta buy a drink if you wanna belt it out. Not much has changed since the days of '03, so here is word for word the reason they became our top pick: "This is a weirdly cool place. The dim lighting, black paint peeling off the walls, and wobbly stage decorated by guitars, horns, and drum sets sit in stark contrast to the bright and busy milieu just outside on Collins Avenue. The best time to visit is in the wee hours of the morning. You'll hear the strained crooning even before you enter; that's when hopped-up club hoppers usually drop in to see if they can be an American Idol, even if it's just in front of friends and barflies."

4. Waxy O'Connors, South Beach
Wednesday 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
According to Kara-O-King's founder Robert Bedrossian: "A nice mix of tourists and locals. Really popular."

fatmonkeybar_homestead_karaoke.jpg

3. Fat Monkey Bar, Homestead
Wednesday through Saturday 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Bedrossian says: "Friday night is ladies night, and that gets very lively. The crowd is Latin, urban, country, and city all mixed in. It's a real fun show for people-watching."

the_s_sports_bar_karaoke.jpg

2. The S Bar, Tamiami
Friday 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Bedrossian says: "The FIU kids go crazy here, bouncing off the walls."

little_hoolies_karaoke.jpg

1. Little Hoolie's, Kendall
Sunday 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Bedrossian says: "The new popular style, the new trend that is taking the karaoke world by storm is Live Band Karaoke. Amateurs are put into the experience of fronting a real live band. You sing with a full band playing behind you. You gotta try that."

i just heard that the Kareo-king guy just violently beat another karaoke DJ this weekend.  An attack from behind because he was jealous about business.  Not only did he knock the guy out cold, but continued to kick him in the face and head violently after he was passed out.  I would not endorse such a monster.

Studio is a terrible venue. Over priced drinks, shady environment, sleazy KJ. I try to avoid going there... If you go out to karaoke you should expect to have fun and a reasonable rotation time. The wait is long, yes because there are lots of people, but the problem is the KJ who takes forever getting them up there to sing. Make sure that you get their songs ahead of time so that there's not 5+ minutes between singers, while drunk patrons slobber on the mic trying to figure out what they will be singing.

Titanic is one of my longtime favorites over the years. Great people, good food, always a good time. I am FLOORED that it's not mentioned at all!!! Ugh...Red Koi is a new venue, quality sound, fun and personable KJ, and a great crowd.Smoke'T is another new one out there it's also got an amazing, great host and fun crowd.

NewTimes is obviously behind the times if they are holding on to these as their Top 5 Karaoke Locations in Miami...

Shocked and appalled... Not only is this a completely biased article, but I think it's a cheap ploy to goad people into revealing their venues so this company can snake them out from other hosts...

Studio is kind of sleazy and creepy (not talking about the KJ, he's a cool dude). I always leave the place feeling like I need a shower after.

All the other places listed are alright, but far from the best shows -- well, I wouldn't actually know about Fat Monkey since, y'know, it's not in Miami. Gotta put in my two cents and mention Seven Seas, equal parts fun and weird (in a good way). Red Koi on Miracle Mile is another great venue with a chic atmosphere and good-looking people everywhere.

I'm finding the scene drama erupting from this article somewhat amusing.

OMG I love LIVE Karaoke at Little Hoolies on Sunday nights! Waxy's is a blast too and the whole fam goes to Jokey and Grumpy's on Wednesdays....speaking of....we are getting ready to go now! Never been to this Seven Seas place?

Funny Stuff.... Haters really like to bitch... I've been to all of these spots and they are great. I would agree that the list is questionable but with 100's of shows in Miami how do you cut it down to just 5? I've been to great shows in little Havana that don't advertise at all... One thing is sure ask 20 people whats their favorite show and why and you'll get 20 different answers.

I find it funny that all of Robert's "competition, if you can call it that" as he said is at far better venues, with far better environments. His "competitors" have farr more actual fans, and all of those companies deliver a FARRRRR better experience. Plus this list says Top 5 in Miami, and 2 of the locations aren't even technically Miami. In my opinion the BEST locations, in MIAMI, are 7seas, Mr Moe's, and Titanic. Red Koi is awesome too, it's just a bit smaller and can get a little too cramped. And for best KJ I'd definitely say Bernie or Walt!!! BY FAR!!! ...you can say you trained Walt, but he took the little you knew and left before you seriously screwed him and some others, and Bernie may have gotten in trouble with similar laws to what Robert did, but he's probably the closest thing to the quality of Boogie Man George around.

Seriously? What about places like Titanic or Mr. Moes? Or any of the newer venues like Smoke't? This is a pretty sad article, I honestly think the people that frequent karaoke bars week after week should have voted on this one.

He's número UNO on the list of karaoke companies being sued for piracy.

Robert
Robert

actually we're numero uno on all the lists, on this one we are 1-5. as far as piracy, we are the only fully legal company in florida. the KJ at seven seas is so illegal he got the bar sued along with toms NFL and hollemans (both places that were solicited and undercut from KOK) KOK was and is the only company who does karaoke the "right way" we were the only ones to man up and settle, all the other guys tried to weasel out and screw the system. dont believe everything you hear from someone whom you already know is a liar. Dont take my word for it, just see for yourself.. the suit is public, I particularly like the parts 80 and 81 on page 22 of slep tone vs karaoke plus.

Tiposuave96

WRONG!!! Boogie Man George was the ONLY company doing things the right way. And let me tell you something, you're no George. You're a nobody who takes pride on being número uno on the new times... Seriously? The people that like your shows are just as sleazy as you are. Best equipment??? Please... I've seen kjs run a show with crap equipment and still put on a better show then you ever could. It's about personality and that's where you sir are lacking. I don't give a fuck if you have 100,000 or 1,000. If I like YOU, then I'll come back. You are a joke, and yes... I am a hater. The best thing walt, Jen and Steven could do was leave your company and start their own. You say you trained them? Really??? Any monkey can play a song and announce the next singer. You're a joke dude. All the shows and Bose speakers in the world can't make you a good kj.

if you're doing things the "right way" why are you being sued?

Robert

funny thing, kara-o-king is numero uno on all the lists, and on this one we are 1-5. however..... We are the ONLY fully legal karaoke company in dade. Seven seas KJ is so illegal he got the bar sued as well as hollemans and toms NFL. and your friends @ karaoke plus, they were sued too. its public knowledge check it out before you pass judgement, you've been lied too if you think K-O-K is the bad guys.... We were the only ones to settle and do karaoke the "right way" everyone else tried to screw the system and weasel out. if you dont believe me check it out for yourself... I particularly like part 80 on page 22 http://scsafeharbor.com/suits/...

Weird article, and disappointing for New Times. Yes, totally biased. How could anyone leave out Miami's best dive bar--7 Seas. It's always filled with singers, and often, some of the best you'll hear. Moes! Great bartenders, and amazing KJ. Fun, pool tables . . . Red Koi--awesome food and hopping! Many Miami-ans don't head to the beach, or Homestead. If this were a real list, Miami would have voted, and I guarantee the round up would have been different. And Titanic? A haven for U of M students--and locals alike.

"Printapons" is a deal-of-the-day website that is localized if a certain number of people sign up for the offer, then the deal becomes available to all; if the predetermined minimum is not met, no one gets the deal that day.

Great article Jacob, I have been to all these shows and agree they are some of the best! Studio can get packed and have long waits but great people watching and so fun! I will have to disagree with the Mr. Moe's comment, it is not my cup o tea to be surrounding by dead animals strung up on the walls while tolerating drunken teeny bopper types, blah.

Have you noticed that everyone here has realized that you have the top 5 spots through some deal? With the exception of 1 place they aren't even your good nights. And best equipment? Bitch please. Come out to a place I'm covering tomorrow night and I'll show you the best equipment. And just like you I went legal after the lawsuit. We own the same legal music. Difference is you got fucked for it because you owned a company and used illegal music. Just like Walt and them who left you when your bullshit put them in trouble, I'm not liable. Like them I never downloaded illegal music I used what was provided. And now I have the ability to buy the newest music live, with over 60,000 songs to pick from and purchase legally while at a show to keep customers happy and giving the best experience. And what do you call it when you walk into a place or call asking them to fire the current KJ and hire you and when you ask what the place pays so you can offer less? See the nice thing about being a patron and a friend at these locations is when shit like that happens management tells me about it so we can share a laugh. You're pathetic man, worst part is, I heard you weren't that bad of a guy when you started in all this, but your ego has made you a joke in the industry. It's gonna be fun watching you bring yourself down.

Rockstar

Actually now it is, two distributors Karaoke Locker & TriceraSoft now sell songs individually online. My software(which is also a paid software) has it stores built in, so the newest songs show up right away. And I was never sued. And it's a poolhall infront of S Bar called Good Time. I'm there doing karaoke 9-1, but I'm there closer to 7.

Robert
Robert

yes u can download music on site but it is not legal, it is not legal for any karaoke production company to digitally distribute their products. If everyone is so legal then why were they sued? why did you get sued? why do they falsely advertise KIAA membership? cause they are liars. Guess what, I'm still not a bad guy, I just have alot more haters talking smack slandering my company cause we do it better. You know better than anybody that the business owner should have stepped up and done the right thing. I did, I continued my reputation of backing up and caring for my employees like family. just cause some of them tried to screw me over and weasel out doesnt mean they got away with it. dont worry it'll catch up to you, thats when it gets real fun. where'd you say you were covering tomorrow? LOL

Robert
Robert

it's really simple, Kara-O-King is the best karaoke company in Florida. Why bother researching a bunch of dives when you can just go to the source of 80% of all the shows in Miami and get the scoop on all the top 5 spots to check out. If you like a particular karaoke spot, cool. Why not try something else for a change, at least you can sing your songs to someone who hasnt heard them 20 times already. I agree that there are lots of places to go, but only kara-o-king maintains a full catalouge. walt and the karaoke plus crew all were trained by me and 90% of their shows all started as kara-o-king shows. it's obvious that they are shyster if they could screw over the company that made them. do you wonder why there is so much drama in the karaoke scene? one thing remains true, kara-o-king does not try and steal shows or undercut competition. we do karaoke better and always find new spots. Unlike my "competition" (if you can call them that) I am not afraid to say who I am or to back it up with this promise: if you want to karaoke, try any of our spots and recieve a free round for up to 4 people by simply making a reservation on our website. click the link on the top left.

Interesting how the "top 5 places" are all run by a company and individuals that were sued last year for using illegal music and are being sued yet again for the same thing. The bars need to realize that they could be held liable as well. Here is the link to the lawsuit that was filed April 2, 2010 in the Federal court, check it out.

Robert is a sleazy used car salesman. Don't try to snake shows? HA! I've actually been present several times and places you've tried that at and watched you get told to leave. And undercutting competition? Who gets paid the least because they try to come in lower on everything? If I'm not mistaken don't you get paid next to nothing for some shows because they get no business out the lack of people you bring but you like to pad your schedule. You've become a joke dude. It's gotten old. Pick a time and place and we can settle this all like men. The best part of it is when I do a night and the constant people that come up and tell me about the great time they've had, how they like my gear setup, how I level out music, the music I play in between or just my great attitude, and when I tell them that's how I always do business, they tell me about bad experiences, and I pull up on my phone the list of shows on your site, and they pick out several saying "Yeah Hoolie's is that greaseball douche that gave me this attitude, or was favoring these people all night and it took me forever to sing".

You're reputation is the most important thing in this business, and you don't have a good one at all.

Why didn't they pay the $10 bribe and get bumped up ???

Dude, if you're a DJ, a real, DJ,,, you know,, you can't please everyone!! Some say too loud, some not loud enough, some not peppy enough, some not mellow enough, and then there's the fact that most the time ,, you're dealing with drunk people who barely remember where they were let alone what they said or how they said it.

oh and about not being able to sing right away,,, once again real DJ'S know this,,,, when you average out karaoke track play per hour,,, this is if say the average track is 3 minutes and you average 12 seconds in between track, you would serve 18-19 people / groups every hour. So what if you give the 20th request in 2 minutes? or the 30th or 40th? You see at busy places you can't expect to sing right away. Oh and I learned that before becoming a KJ at Hooligan's on Saturday nights back when it good. And yeah boogie man george had a good crew and good shows,,, but, and this is with all respect for the dead,,,, i heard about george trying to snake shows from others. Karaoke is a business like others in the sense that it is competitive.

You know about 7 years ago,,, Rob was still building his company,,, and Boogie Man George was the top dog, and for everyone who praised george, another would complain. Once again,,, you can't please everyone.

I'm not about to get into it with any of you guys about the lawsuit, or the fairness of this list because all lists have some bias.and the lawsuit started a year ago, and it's almost a year since defection of 3 KOK KJs to form Karaoke Plus. You both need to let this go!

Robert
Robert

obviously my reputation is pretty good, the top 5 spots. the most spots, the most songs, the best equipment and oh yeah I can actually tell people where we're going to be cause I'm legal. arent you john doe #3 or something on that lawsuit. I have NEVER solicited a place that already had karaoke. people say its hard to be on top, and its true, haters are a sign of success. so go ahead talk S%$#! If you had a spine you might be able to pass as a man and settle something.

why was there no reason given for only covering Kara-O-King company shows?? All it says is "no offense". There are dozens, if not hundreds, of people who run shows in south florida. To only "feature" one company for National Karaoke Week is insulting to them all, and to all who attend. If this is the extent of New Times' knowledge base, I think they need to stop attending all those pill mills that advertise in their paper.

While some of these are good they are nowhere near the best. Thursdays at red koi are pretty awesome. So are tuesdays at se7en seas and whoever said moes is totally right too. Walt is great there!! This is completely biased!
