​Remember progressive house? With its trippy hippie whimsy, these days it's considered the punchline to a joke by many an EDM snob. But prog reigned supreme during the '90s, when artists like Sasha, John Digweed and Way Out West ruled the international scene. Maybe folks were less utilitarian about their dancefloor fare back then -- more open to consciousness expansion through sound.

But one producer still pushing the sonic envelope in the spirit of the old-school prog pioneers is the UK's James Zabiela.


Boasting a maverick blend of techno, house, breaks and psychedelic electronica, he has emerged as one of the most forward-thinking EDM artists of the last decade. Not to mention a major technological trailblazer, having helped Pioneer Electronics test and develop many of its innovations in music technology.

It's no surprise then that Zabiela would get signed to Sasha's Excession agency or that he's put out his fair share of bombs on John Digweed's Bedrock imprint.
