Behold the BassHead!
Don't let us hear you say that Miami doesn't have a kick-ass underground electronic music scene, because we are absolutely brimming with homegrown talent.

And the best thing is that it's still a relatively young scene. If there is this much forward-thinking creativity happening now, we can't wait to see Miami blossom into a full-blown electronic music capital to give cities like Detroit, London, and Berlin a run for their money.

See the cut for Miami's five best electronic music labels.

1. petFood Records

Founded by Miami DJ-producers Lazaro Casanova and Jay-You, petFood features a growing roster of local and international talent, including Poupon, Android Cartel, D-Low & Alex Sosa, and Swanken. As stylistic heirs to Oscar G's seminal Murk imprint, the emphasis is soulful jacking house. And petFood's releases have been rocking the charts all the way through 2011.

2. BassHead Music

DJ-producer Juan BassHead has been at the forefront of Miami's local bass music scene for nearly a decade. He also played a major role in popularizing dubstep on the local scene when it was still an underground phenomenon from overseas. Pairing up with London producer A-Sides for the BassHead imprint, Juan has established a bridge of sorts between the UK and Miami bass scenes with contributions by top notch producers like Skream, Bassnectar, Datsik, 12th Planet, and Otto Von Schirach.

3. So Sound Recordings

Perhaps you haven't heard of DJ-producer Fabian Giannattasio, AKA Jazzy Eyewear. But if he's off the trendy nightlife radar, it's only because he's been busy as hell releasing some of the finest house music to come out of Miami in the last decade. And in addition to Jazzy Eyewear's own work, So Sound boasts a formidable artist roster including major international heavyweights like Manuel Tur, Inland Knights, and Kinky Movement.

4. Wehppa Music

In Puerto Rico, the expression "wehppa!" has different meanings in different contexts, none of which have an exact translation into English. It can be the equivalent of a greeting like "yo!," a celebratory exclamation like "woot!," or a cat call, like a guy exclaiming "damn!" when he sees a hot woman walking down the street. And as its name implies, the Wehppa label encapsulates different styles, like minimal techno, tribal, and deep house. Founded by Miami DJ-producer and Un_Mute resident Louis David, the label has served as a launching pad for the work of various up-and-coming locals like Dsan Powell, Baez, and Juan Rojas.

5. Dubporn Records

Dubporn is the label of local DJ-producer Adrianna Moschides, AKA Goodroid. And as the name suggests, this outfit's all about giving you superintense eargasms. It's a young imprint. But with a whole slew of emerging forward-thinking production talent including Gray Ghost, ptr1, and Inanna, Dubporn is aiming to define the future sound of bass.
