Summer of Weirds II Unleashes Strange Noise on Churchill's Pub August 19

​Is anything truly weird anymore?

In 2011, headlines read like a Best of The Onion calendar and everyone is fucking through their cell phone. So what's got the power to grab you by the nose hairs, wipe your brain, and make your eyes turn into bloodshot question marks?

When Crossfade contacted Jeff Rollason, curator of the Summer of Weirds II festival at Churchill's Pub, and asked him to justify his diction, he sent us the following definition: Weird, adj. pertaining to, or connected with, fate or destiny; supernatural; caused by magical influence: n. a spell or charm.

For now, we're going to call Rollasson a dirty hippie and interpret the weird in his event's name to mean freeform and/or experimental, in that the performers either play a contemporary mish-mash of pre-existing genres, or are bold enough to stake out new terrain.  

A sequel to last year's Summer of Weirds, a two-day tribute to the once-monthly Night of Weirds, this year's mini-fest will follow in the tradition of Rollasson's historically open-ended booking. Noise conference regular and Weirds vet Ant Parade, a one-woman synth/vocal act from Tampa, will be making her return to Churchill's Pub as will seemingly dormant Miami synth-punk duo Animals of the Arctic, whose members have been moonlighting in This Heart Electric and the recently formed 90s Teen. Garage-y girl group Snakehole will be there, as will noise-pop trio Hahahelp!
