Weezer Cruise 2012: Rivers Cuomo and Crew Set Sail From Miami on January 19

Rivers Cuomo wants to cruise with you.

​Who would've pegged Weezer's Rivers Cuomo for a cruise enthusiast?

But in a YouTube commercial posted today, the emo icon appears ocean-ready (no Buddy Holly glasses) and dressed in a totally Carnival-appropriate outfit (crappy baseball cap and striped, navy-blue polo) to announce that he's gone crazy for the cruising life.

"Hi, I'm Rivers from Weezer," he mumbles. "And I'm here to talk to you about the Weezer Cruise that we'll be hosting in January."

WTF? But you heard right ... On January 19, 2012, the inaugural Weezer Cruise will set sail aboard the Carnival Destiny, leaving from the Port of Miami for Cozumel, Mexico, with a ridiculous passenger list, including Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Wavves, the Antlers, Yuck, Free Energy, Keepaway, Boom Bip, and Gene Ween and Dave Dreiwitz, Ozma, the Nervous Wreckords, the Knocks, and Sleeper Agent.



There will also be a "Yacht Rock Revue," which we assume is some kind of semi-ironic Eagles/Jimmy Buffet/whatever cover show, performed by a bunch of those aforementioned indie superstars. UPDATE: Actually, it's these seven dudes from Atlanta who describe their sound as "the music you listen to at the dentist's office while getting your teeth cleaned."

Weezers and cruisers can buy cabin space for $799 or more per person (plus taxes and fees) by signing up for the ticket presale, which begins Tuesday, July 19. And in addition to concerts, passenger packages include "a photo with the band," entrance to "an exclusive Q&A on the Lido deck," awesome food, free 24-hour room service, and access to pools, hot tubs, and the casino.

"Think of it as a huge music festival at sea," Rivers monotonously enthuses. "So come aboard and let's rock."
