UPDATE: Eclectic Electric will not be taking place at the Electric Pickle tonight. The party has been postponed.

Eclectic Electric ... Say it again, eclectic electric.

This trippy tongue twister isn't just the title of Primus song, it's the name of DJ Benton Galgay's free and low-key Thursday dance party. A weeknight left neglected for sometime, Eclectic Electric is bringing it all the way back to fun.

Eclectic Electric kicked off at the Electric Pickle early this summer. Benton was a regular at much-loved, now-closed Bar where you would have normally heard him spinning anything and everything from your favorite Muppets song to good old fashion dance music to rare DJ nerd stuff.

But he's no stranger to the Pickle, having spun plenty of vinyl at the Midtown joint during Poplife parties of the past. Standing at the Pickle's DJ booth next to the downstairs bar, Benton looks pretty comfortable. You might ask: Mom, why does Benton get do all the good parties? It's because Benton is the best.

First off, Eclectic Electric is a dance party, so it's all about having fun and getting sweaty. It's also about the DJs, which include Juan Tapia, Jonathan Brody, Mr. Brown, and Stevezy. And finally, it's about live music.

This week, you'll experience all-girl rock band Snakehole and what Benton calls the "synth-driven experimental electronic music" of Radio-Active Records' Richard Vergez with Kelvin Mitchell as Möthersky.

"You'll hear Rolling Stones and then you'll also hear Daft Punk." Benton says. Basically, "dance music from every generation." This Thursday (and the first of every month), Loose Cannons bike race rolls into the bar to celebrate its long steamy ride. Also, people will be selling their collectables, records, clothes, and DIY shit at the Midnight Rummage Sale.

Benton says, what he most enjoys is "playing different music that I love to a room full of new people every week." Since he and the Pickle alternate in booking live local and national acts for the night, he finds that, "I get to expose myself to them." Of course, not in the Paul Reubens way. But, uh, musically. And it's hard to imagine them not loving every moment of it.

Eclectic Electric with Snakehole, Möthersky, and Loose Joints. Thursday, September 1. Electric Pickle, 2826 N. Miami Ave., Miami. The party starts at 10 p.m. and there's no cover. Booze specials include $3 beers and half-off specialty drinks all night. Ages 21 and up. Call 305-456-5613 or visit electricpicklemiami.com.

DJBN10 is like an inner child with lots of toys who likes to share with everybody, your body, my body.  Actually he is a licensed (did i spell that correct)  dancefloor shaman.  His medicine will heal your damaged spirits and break coffee tables.  I once saw him struck by a bolt of lightning and he channeled the electricity into the speakers, it was cool.  A lot of people might not be aware of what's actually happening because they infact don't go to parties to listen to good music and dance.  They hidden other agendas, that's why they leave before the climax of the night... THE 4:30 DANCEOFF!!!

Benton's a bit heavy-handed with the disco cheese sometimes, but for the most part, he's playing the best (and most eclectic mix of) music in South Florida.

i took offense more to the best dj in town label than to your tried and tested skills. ranking djs/musicians/artists is just plain silly.
