Hunx and His Punx, Flamboyancy and Horniness at The Stage This Friday

Let your horndog loose with Hunx and His Punx.

​Seth Bogart is unapologetically horny, and he'll be at The Stage this weekend.

As the flamboyantly fabulous frontman of Hunx and His Punx, the onstage banter between Bogart and the crowd often consists of boner references, pee fetish pillow talk, and the occasional loose pubic hair in someone's mouth. He has the body of a flat-chested teenage girl, and the falsetto of a Phil Spector-produced wet dream.

But Hardly Art's mustachioed queen of '60s-esque girl pop may just be the king of the fuzzy-wuzzy bubblegum revival. Just like the Ronettes and the Shangri-Las, Hunx and His Punx's simple music is about love -- albeit gay love.

The group's 2009 LP, Gay Singles, was 12 tracks of homoerotic, "Dear Diary"-like numbers about boy-craziness, heartbreak, and turning straight men into gay boys. The handclappy "You Don't Like Rock 'n' Roll" is both a tribute to the '60s girl pop sound and rock music.



Backed by power chords and upset with his boyfriend's musical palette, Bogart sings, "You like Morrissey, you like U2/What the fuck is wrong with you?/Are you deaf or just plain dumb?/You don't like Joey, you don't like fun/You don't like the Ramones, so you gotta leave home."

Their latest, Too Young to Be in Love also follows the boy-meets-boy formula, delivering 10 tracks of lovers' quarrels, face-sucking sessions, and lovable bad boy hijinks in a dreamy, 30-minute package of tastefully reverbed pop punk.

The Shannon Shaw-backed (Shannon and the Clams) "Lover's Lane" is a harmonious make-out ballad sprinkled with loss -- the death of a lover Bogart longs to kiss "one last time."



In addition to backing vocals, Shaw also accompanies Bogart on tour, playing bass with the Punx, and adding authenticity to the girl group nature of this male-led ensemble. And the collaborative result is a nostalgic wall of sound.
