|Ladies love to funk.|
Big up ArtOfficial, Mayday!, Dangerflow, Xperimento, Sounduo, Locos Por Juana, Lanzallamas, and all the other great funk influenced bands in Miami right now.
But if they (or you) are ever looking for inspiration and the chance to sit in with some of the best musicians in the MIA, then check out The No Name Band, a nine-man soul machine with more chops than a Hialeah cleaver.
This is the house band at Shantel Lounge, down the street from Churchill's Pub. And they are the funk.
Every week, the Shantel
(which New Times
has recognized with Best Of Miami awards for Open Mic
) hosts the band for two sets of soul, rhythm 'n' blues, rock, and funk, including covers ranging from Muddy Waters' "Hoochie Coochie Man" to "Play That Funky Music."
The rhythm is lock tight, the improvisation is visceral, and the crowd interaction is strong. They put on a hell of a show. But until this post (although they have been around in some form or other since the '90s), the Band With No Name didn't exist on the internet. So if you wanna hear em', you gotta see em' live. Here are some pictures from yesterday.
