Churchill's Owner Dave Daniels' Birthday Bash: Jazz, Beatles, and 25-Cent Drinks

This is Winston Churchill, not Dave Daniels.
We should be hosting a parade in honor of Churchill's Pub owner Dave Daniels's birthday. Like, a bizarro, Little Haiti musical version of Mango Strut with Rat Bastard as the Grand Marshal and kegs of Strongbow lining the streets.

But Mr. Daniels is a humble man. So when this local visionary turns 71 years old next week, he'll be celebrating with a simple b-day bash at his own pub.

Though Daniels's actual birthday is November 16, Churchill's will be setting aside Monday, November 14, for his party. There'll be special guests at jazz night and a tribute to the Beatles. Plus, everybody will get their first drink for just 25 cents, because that's what booze cost when Daniels bought his bar 32 years ago.

The birthday boy might even drop a DJ set.

Irish Nicky who has worked as a bartender at the pub for ten years told Crossfade, "Back in the day, when he did the Buxton Rock Festival, he actually DJed before John Peel when John Peel was only a young boy."

Churchill's is the beating heart of celebratory music and boozing activities in the busty chest of Miami. Sounds dramatic? It is, in the most delicious way possible.

"The thing is with Churchill's is there's Dave Daniels' birthday [and then] there's Winston Churchill's birthday," Nicky says, "Between me, Dave, and Churchill's, and everything else, there's about probably 20 birthday parties a year."

So, who is this Dave Daniels? Besides giving us a second home and the most solid music venue in Miami, why are we celebrating his birthday?

From Stoke, England, Daniels could have been a professional soccer player in his youth, but he gave up the life of a footballer to become a promoter. He worked with Mecca, booking Thin Lizzy, Ozzy Osbourne, Roxy Music, and bringing American soul to his home country.

"The reason I like working for him is because anything goes. He's open to all styles of music, even if it might drive him up the wall," Nicky says, adding that one of the most delightful things about the man is, "his big, loud laugh."

You'll often find Daniels "sitting at the end of the bar in his big throne, eating his dinner, drinking cider, and checking out all the lovely legs that go into the women's bathroom."

As Irish Nicky points out, Daniels is a big fan of shapely gams. So as a gift to the birthday boy, Nicky suggests you wear your mini-skirts and give him a kiss on the cheek. "That would be for the women," he says. If you're a dude, buy him a cider in thanks and wear some pants.
