Sweat Records' Black Friday Garage Sale Promises Deep Discounts and No Stampedes

Sweat Records owner Lauren Reskin promises no bloodshed at her shop this Black Friday.

Oh, Black Friday!

Every year after Thanksgiving, a shopping warzone breaks out as holiday cheer and good tidings soon give way to flying elbows and weeping grandmothers who scream in the deep-throated, craggy, ten-packs-a-day roar of a truck driver at a strip club, "Christmas shopping season is fucking on, motherfucker!"

This year, though, we here at Crossfade thought it'd be nice to skip the seasonal savagery and dig for discounts at our favorite neighborhood vegan coffee shop and record store, Sweat Records. You never see anyone getting trampled in a stampade at those Waffle Parties, do you?

Crossfade: Have you ever had any particularly insane Christmas shopping experiences? Or maybe you sent your own parents on a mad dash for something in particular?
Lolo: Thankfully, no. My parents are pretty chill about all of that. We did both Christmas and Hanukkah when I was younger and it was all very casual. One time, though, I accidentally found myself at Dadeland pre-Christmas and spent over an hour just trapped in the parking lot. I swore I'd never make that mistake again.



Who does one buy gifts for at Sweat Records?
We like to think that our store has something for just about anyone, at least anyone who likes music. We've also got gift certificates and have been doing tons of special orders lately. So we're happy to track down stuff for people.

What are some non-music items you're excited about this holiday season?
My favorite lately has been the Urbanears Medis Earbuds. They've got awesome features and are the best sport earbuds I've found. They just don't fall out.

What's up with the Record Store Day Back to Black exclusives?
We've gotten a nice selection of the releases, but they're gonna go quick. These bi-annual RSD exclusives are still a semi-recent development, and we remain baffled as to how they're all allotted. We definitely received only one or two copies of several items we ordered multiples of, and can't do much about it.

Are you at liberty to reveal some of the RSD titles you'll have in stock?
We're getting most of the main vinyl box sets -- Beatles seven-inches, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, etc.
