Music blog Stereogum has posted some teaser tracks from the forthcoming Muppets movie soundtrack and the songs feature two of indie rock's leading ladies: Joanna Newsom and Feist.

You'd figure the Muppets would either hit their core demographic with whatever 11-year-old superstar is in right now. Or try to experiment by slumming it with, say, Miss Piggy and Snooki singing "The Boy Is Mine."

But you have to remember: Jim Henson's beloved post-marionette creations have had a long love affair with quality jazz, pop, showtunes, and good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll. Check out Crossfade's top ten magical musical moments of Muppetry after the jump.

10. Weezer's "Keep Fishin"
Weezer imploded after America was too square to understand Pinkerton, the dark psychosexual follow-up to 1994's shy-and-innocent self-titled debut, known to all as The Blue Album. Ever since Rivers Cuomo reassembled his fragile psyche and got the band back together, Weezer has gone nowhere near the ennui of their now-classic 1996 brooder.

9. LCD Soundsystem's "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down"
James Murphy and Kermit "It Isn't Easy Being Green" the Frog are cut from the exact same mopey, self-deprecating (but also self-important) cloth.

8. Saves the Day's "Freakish"
The creatures in Save the Day's video for its second single from 2001 breakout album, Stay What You Are, are not actually Muppets. But they're definitely lowercase muppety. And we really appreciate how these puppets are clearly a Freudian expression of frontman Chris Conley's hyper-melodramatic subconscious.

7. Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold" on Sesame Street
Boobies!

6. John Denver & The Muppets' "The 12 Days of Christmas"
This collaboration is the definitive rendition of the holiday classic.
