​The Herd is stampeding toward SoFla.

Almost 22 years ago, East Coast fusion rockers Donna the Buffalo led a mass gathering of its friends, fellow bands, and followers -- nicknamed The Herd -- to Ithaca, New York for the inaugural Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival.

In the intervening decades, this annual fest has grown into a 60-band celebration of Cajun, country, blues, reggae, rock, and hip-hop. It's even spawned spinoffs, the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival in rural North Carolina. And now the first-ever Virginia Key Grassroots Festival has announced its initial 25-act lineup, going down over four full days in February 2012.
