It's been approximately 32 months since self-described Brooklyn "keyboard band" Au Revoir Simone released the dark and dreamy 2009 album, Still Night, Still Light, and its sparklingly spooky single "Shadows."

Understandably, plenty of music geeks with a fetish for moody twee melodies (e.g. Crossfade, our current makeout partners, and you) are desperately pining for Simone's follow-up collection.

So we called up keyboardist-vocalist Annie Hart to ask about the status of Au Revoir Simone's fourth album.

And in this week's print edition of Miami New Times, Hart tells us: "Well, we're actually taking quite a bit of a break while [bandmate] Heather [D'Angelo] finishes school. She's getting her second bachelor's degree in science."

In the meantime, though, the outfits's other two members, Hart and Erika Forster, have been meeting their artistic needs by making non-Simone music.

"You know, Heather doesn't have a side project," Hart laughs. "Her side project is school.

"But Erika does solo work under her own name, Erika Spring. And she just had a split single with Violens. It's really good. So I definitely recommend it!"

"And I'm also in a band with my husband [Doug Marvin]. We're called Pursesnatchers and we had an album come out this year," she says, adding, "So we're all staying busy."

Yet Hart, Forster, and D'Angelo's main project isn't on hiatus. This threesome is still meeting every few months to slowly spin together songs for that as-yet-untitled follow-up to Still Night, Still Light.

"We spent this whole summer writing songs for our next record," Hart reveals. "And we didn't completely finish. But we got a lot done."

Unfortunately, though, that means the album isn't all that close to completion. "We're just writing. Totally just writing. We have not recorded anything. We only did some demos."

Not to mention, Hart says: "The next chance we have to work on the album is January when Heather's on break again. And then after that, we'll get together in May."

"Plus, there will always be little hiccups along the way," she laughs. "So I can't really tell you anything about the immediate future."

In other words, don't miss Simone's totally free show at Grand Central this Saturday. And keep pining, music geeks. Keep pining. Desperately.
